Community-Led Elder Abuse Response (CLEAR) is coordinated, community-wide effort to effectively respond to and address abuse against older adults in Cochrane and Area. The focus is to increase awareness of elder abuse and how to respond via education, coordinated community planning and advocacy. Partners of the CLEAR network include: Alberta Health Services, Bethany Cochrane, Primary Care Network, RCMP and Cochrane Victim Services, Seniors on the Bow, The Town of Cochrane – Family and Community Support Services, and Western Rocky View Family and Community Resource Centre.

Calgary Seniors helps potentially at-risk seniors achieve and maintain their quality of life through social work and outreach, community engagement, education, and volunteer programming, both during crises and in ongoing, long-term support.

Victim Services include crisis support workers and “first responders” who provide support during the first few critical hours after a crime or tragic event. They also provide an essential link between the Police and victims and can provide information regarding the status of investigations, court cases and trial dispositions.

PCNs are groups of doctors working collaboratively with teams of health care professionals, such as nurses, dietitians and pharmacists, working together to meet primary health care needs in their communities.

What We’re Doing in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo

St. Aidan’s Society took the lead in a Coordinated Community Response (CCR) for Elder Abuse in the RMWB beginning in September 2015. The CCR for Elder Abuse Committee was formed and has approximately 20 local organizations who have various levels of involvement, and are working together to create a local collaborative response to deal with elder abuse in our region. Having this process will assist our community in the prevention and intervention of elder abuse in this region, with the ultimate goal of safety for seniors. The target date for completion of this model is December 2017.

SOA Program provides individual and community-based supports to older adults who are experiencing harm in their family, intimate partner and/or other trusting relationships. Individuals who are 60 years of age or older (or identify as an older adult) live in the Lloydminster and surrounding area, and are experiencing harm in a trusting relationship

Program Components
Consists of confidential, one-on-one sessions with older adults, providing personalized support and case management/coordination of community helpers, elder abuse information, learning activities, advocacy, safety planning and supported community referrals (financial support, housing, addictions support, counseling, legal advice, Living Well Program, etc.). This service is free of cost to the individual.
